An abundance of Nasturtiums always pop up in the garden each year from self seeding. They are always a pleasure to see and so easy to grow! Its trailing nature makes it an ideal plant for containers and baskets.The Nasturtium (Tropaeolum) is native to Peru, other common names include Indian Cress, Mexican Cress and Peru Cress. The flowers and leaves are edible, having a peppery taste and are a good source of Vitamin C and iron. In the Victorian language of flowers the Nasturtium represents Patriotism, it is also the 40th Anniversary flower. Nasturtiums may be good as companion plants in deterring pests. They are often used to deter beetles, white fly and sometimes woolly aphids if grown at the base of apple trees.
