This leaf was a joy to paint as it gave me an opportunity to use my gorgeous burnt orange watercolour pigments. I still have to work quickly with fallen leaves as they will soon curl up when brought into a warm house. Autumn is one of my favourite times of year. I love walking through the woods on a cold Autumn morning looking at the beautiful oranges and yellows of the leaves.  Maple leaves are amongst some the most colourful and are a common tree found in Britain (field maple and sycamore maple).

The maple is known as a symbol of strength and endurance and has been chosen as the national tree of many countries, including Canada.
